Happy Vernal Equinox
I hope this finds you well and enjoying the blessings of life.
Well, it is my honor to fill Marcy’s shoes as president. I have carved with her for several years, and served on the board for one and a half. As you know, she is very personable, and interesting to talk to. We will miss you Marcy, but wish you the best retirement ever. I know I have been enjoying mine for seven (7) years.
So you might ask, who is this Neil McGuire? I worked in the Christian school movement for 38 years as a teacher, principal, and then a book salesman. After retirement I took the time to get involved in wood craft. I joined the club in 2016, and have enjoyed carving and fellowshipping with you carvers. What a diverse and interesting group we are.
President's MessageIt is time to say so long and I will miss all of you as I start my new adventure of finding a home somewhere in PA, or upstate NY. We close on our Charlotte home on September 25, so after that we will travel and explore areas that we may pick to settle down and buy our new home. This is an exciting and scary time but hopefully we will not be still camping when the snow starts to fly. I will think about the club and members often and hope to return for future shows. Thank you for all of your support and kind words as we venture into the unknown.
We voted last week and Neil McGuire is your new President. Rich DiFranco has taken on the task of Treasurer. I know they will do a great job and I will miss working with them and the rest of the members of my Board. Thank you to my Board for their help during this unusual Covid-19 time of managing the club.
“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.”
Farewell and Goodbye!
Charlotte Woodcarvers Club
Charlotte Woodcarvers ClubThank you for inviting me to judge your show. I had a great experience judging alongside Pete Ortell. Many times we had an indepth discussion about the pieces of art; the quality and quantity were outstanding.
All the hard work that the club members put in was refliected in the smooth operation of the judging process, the impressive set up of the show and the happy faces around all weekend.
Thank you for asking me to do a demo, I enjoyed sharing what I know and do with all the others as well as listening in on sime of the other talks.
President's MessageI would like to start out with some good news that we have successfully navigated having two woodcarving meetings at the Carmel Presbyterian Church on Tuesday from 3PM-7PM. Both meetings we have had 14 people show up to carve outdoors with us. Join us next time. Last week we had the library and wood closet open for business.
We have made our yearly donation to the church. The board donated $1000 to the church. Cameral Presbyterian Church has been so generous to our club with the space they allow us to use week after week. They received our gift and Thanked us for our donation.
President's MessageI hope everyone is healthy and has been creating some woodcarvings to show us when we finally get to return.
Our first event has been cancelled at Matthew’s Farmers Market on May 16th from 8AM to 12PM. This event will be repeated on October 10 from 8AM-12PM latter in the year. Hopefully by October we will be able to participate in this event. We will keep you updated.
We have decided to cancel the July picnic because of the COVID-19 virus and not knowing what is going to happen in these next few months as our state is opening up. We know big gatherings will be the last type of events to be safe to open so that is why we are cancelling the picnic. We will just have to make the Christmas Holiday Party extra special this year. We hope everything in the world will have calmed down by then so we can look forward to spending a nice evening enjoying dinner together at that time.
We plan on opening up carving at the end of May at the church location by holding the club outside with proper social distancing and wearing masks. Bring your own lawn chair and come and enjoy the company of your carving friends from 3PM-7PM on Tuesdays. The Woodcraft location still will not be open to hold our meetings because we do not see a way to practice proper social distancing at that location.
