Hello Carvers

Let's begin this newsletter looking back at July before looking forward to August and beyond and hopefully to cooler temps.
It is always pleasant to get together at our Summer Celebration and spend time with the wives and husbands of the carvers we see all year. Thanks for all the side dishes and desserts you brought with you. As always thanks to Judy and Bill Dominick for getting the main course and supplies and organizing the kitchen, buffet tables, and cleanup. Thanks also to Bill for
donating extra door prizes to add to the gift certificates the Club purchased. Bill Robinson would like to thank all that contributed to Loaves and Fishes. Finally, thanks to all who brought carvings for Show-N-Tel, a feature we will do more of at carving meetings this year as suggested in our Idea Box by Ted Appel.
Also in July was a Bill Johnson chip carving class organized first by Jim Horn and then Neil McGuire. I'm sure Neil will report on that class and have photos of both July events in this newsletter.

On to August and beyond. As announced last month, Bob Bentson found a new carving opportunity with Union County and the City of Monroe. Rich DiFranco, Rocky Paiano and I met with the new Bazemore Active Adult Center, 500 W. Jefferson St Monroe, NC 28112 and carving will begin on Friday mornings, 9 am-12noon each week beginning Friday, August 4, 2023. The idea is to give carvers in that area of Union County, who can't make Tuesdays or find coming to Charlotte too difficult, a place to carve. Some of us will carve on both days. You must join the Adult Center and there is no cost to join. You must be a Union County resident age 55+ to carve in Monroe. There is also a woodworking shop, with an instructor, where we can cut out projects.

The next Club class is being organized by Butch Elder. It will be a bird carving project and Butch is in progress with organizing the class, cutouts, etc. The date and cost will be announced soon, probably after Labor Day. This class will be spread over several Tuesdays during regular carving, 9 am-11:30 am.
For those attending Wild Acres with Rod Gatlin in August stay in touch with Rod. Hope you get cooler mountain weather.
