Greetings Woodcarvers

First, I would like to thank all of the carvers that participated at the Matthews Alive Festival. Every year the festival seems to grow with more and more vendors and activities for young and old alike. Our club is extremely fortunate to have a nice air conditioned room to demonstrate carving and to display our completed projects. The public perception of our work was very favorable and we enjoyed explaining the differences in the various wood and tools that we use for carving. Second, in the future I would like to see more club members participate. I know this is a holiday weekend and we all have commitments but a couple of hours of carving can mean a great deal to the club. This is the only club activity that we actually receive a stipend for doing what we love.

It’s hard to believe that the Show is only 5 months away. The Show theme is “Americana” and the dates are February 22-23, 2020. We are asking everyone to register as soon as possible. The earlier we register the easier it is on everyone involved, especially our treasurer. As I have said in the past we are enthusiastic about hosting the Caricature Carvers of America. The 2020 Show promises to deliver some of the “best” that woodcarving has to offer. You can register online here

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS. As always the Club needs volunteers for the Show, for committees and to serve as officers and directors. Please take a minute and think about the future of this club. Where would we be if nobody was willing to step-up and volunteer their time and talent. We will be having nominations in November for officers and directors. I would like to see several candidates for each office in order to have a real election at our January, 2020 meeting.

A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist.
